1898 Society
The 1898 Society honors both Ascension St. Vincent’s founding date and the four Daughters of Charity who responded to our community’s call for holistic, person-centered care. Annual gifts of $1,000 or more qualify for membership, which sustains the charitable and mission-based work of our healing ministry. Each gift supports vital needs.

Visionary Society
Donors who complete a planned or deferred gift are invited to be enrolled as members of the Ascension St. Vincent’s Visionary Society to perpetually recognize their generosity. A donor may be anonymous during their lifetime and enrolled upon their death. Likewise, this designation is also extended to donors who become known to the Foundation as the result of a previously unknown planned gift.

Small Wonders
Celebrate a Life with a Tile on the Small Wonders Wall
Available for anyone born at Ascension St. Vincent’s Birmingham!
The birth of a baby is a sacred and wondrous event. At Ascension St. Vincent’s Birmingham, we are honored to have been part of creating precious memories and rejoicing in the joy of new life. With your donation to Ascension St. Vincent’s Foundation, parents, grandparents, and special friends have the opportunity to commemorate the birth of a baby on our Small Wonders Wall. A special acknowledgment card will be mailed to your honoree, if requested.
Tiles celebrate the miracle of life, show appreciation to Ascension St. Vincent’s nurses, physicians, and staff, and provide critical financial support for our Women and Children’s Center.
You may also honor big brothers and sisters born at Ascension St. Vincent’s. Additional tiles may be purchased to recognize the birth of older children. It’s a wonderful way to pay a lasting tribute to the children in your life! Each personalized tile includes the baby’s name and date of birth. Walls are prominently displayed on the second and third floors of the Women and Children’s Center.
The Small Wonders Wall also serves to remember a cherished life that did not live to full term or died shortly after birth. Thus, the Wall honors all life and recognizes their presence, though frail and all too brief. Each Memorial Tile is adorned with an angel and includes the infant’s name or “Baby” and the family’s last name. The date of the loss or death is also included.

Volunteer
Volunteer and help change the lives of patients in our community. As a not-for-profit health care ministry, we rely heavily on the commitment and effort of our incredible volunteers to make a difference. Help us engage the community and provide resources for caring for today’s patients.
Our Volunteers are a vital part of fulfilling our ministry by serving patients, their families and visitors, and supporting our associates.
The Ascension St. Vincent’s Volunteer Services department works with each volunteer applicant to find an assignment that matches their skills, talents, and interests.
If you are interested in volunteering at Ascension St. Vincent’s Birmingham, Ascension St. Vincent’s One Nineteen, or Ascension St. Vincent’s Chilton, we are looking for volunteers for the information desk, wayfinding, GI transport, baby bow makers, and adjunct newborn Christmas stockings seamstresses. Those who are interested in volunteering at Ascension St. Vincent’s East, Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Clair, or Ascension St. Vincent’s Blount can contact Kim Mayer at 205-838-3265 or by email at kimberlyn.mayer@ascension.org. We are currently seeking volunteers for the information desk, wayfinding, and gift shop support.
To volunteer at Ascension St. Vincent’s, the following requirements must be met:
- 18 years or older
- Completed application
- Interview with Volunteer Supervisor or designee
- Background check
- Health requirements including annual flu shot and COVID vaccination
- Complete Volunteer Orientation
- A minimum of 4 volunteer hours per week for at least 6 months
*Shifts available Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.-12 noon or 12 noon-4:00 p.m.
Volunteers will be provided with an Ascension St. Vincent’s Volunteer uniform and receive a free meal each time they work a shift.
